The Dangers of Anger and How to Control It - October 17, 1991
The Dangers of Anger and How to Control It
In this episode, we delve into valuable insights from Islamic teachings about controlling anger and its destructive power. Anger, if not managed, can lead to regrettable actions and significant harm to oneself and society. By reflecting on the behavior and advice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (peace be upon him), we learn about the importance of avoiding anger, a lesson poignantly illustrated through examples of righteous anger and its differences from the destructive anger stemming from the ego.
We also explore the concept of 'fitna' (mischief) as highlighted in the Quran, emphasizing its severe consequences on societal harmony. The episode provides insights on how fitna can lead to social breakdown and the essential need to bridge differences within communities to showcase unity and righteousness, much like the companions of the Prophet ﷺ did.
Additionally, the narration touches on the idea of 'ghibah' (backbiting), one of the gravest negative traits as warned in the Quran, compared to the act of eating a dead brother's flesh. It reinforces the importance of seeking forgiveness and striving to remove such vices from personal conduct to achieve spiritual purification.
The importance of leading a balanced life, in alignment with the hereafter rather than worldly gains, is further discussed. By focusing on the hereafter, contentment fills the heart, leading to a peaceful existence that contrasts with the discontent and anxiety faced by those overly attached to material pursuits.
Finally, the episode shares inspiring anecdotes from the personal life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (peace be upon him), showcasing his fairness, humility, and affection in familial relationships. It highlights how his life serves as an example of high moral character and enduring wisdom, emphasizing the importance of equity, kindness, and foresight in interpersonal dealings.
